Master of Divinity (MDiv)

Our Master of Divinity (MDiv) program is perfect for anyone planning to enter Christian ministerial leadership of a congregation or for church leadership more broadly.

Designed to develop spiritually mature, Spirit-led leaders, the program includes attention to a student’s growth in theological discernment and competency in ministry, as well as the development of character, sense of call, ministerial identity and spiritual depth, and commitment to service in the name of Christ.

Take courses on campus, online, or both!

911±¬ÁÏÍø offers our MDiv programs through both the Master of Divinity Campus program and the Master of Divinity Connect (distance education) program.

Both MDiv Connect students and MDiv Campus students can major in Pastoral Ministry, Chaplaincy, and Christian Faith Formation. At this time, only MDiv Campus students can major in Theological Studies.

Educational goals of the Master of Divinity program

Preparation for pastoral service in the Anabaptist tradition requires more than developing a pastoral presence to specific situations or individuals. It builds competence and confidence in students to provide direction for the church’s life and witness.

  • Graduates are grounded in and are continuously formed by the Bible.
  • Graduates engage their historical and theological traditions in the context of the larger Christian church.
  • Graduates are formed by a continuing encounter with God.
  • Graduates demonstrate personal integrity and authority in ministry.
  • Graduates understand and creatively engage their ministry context.
  • Graduates lead the church in fulfilling its missional calling.

Why seminary?

Students and faculty share why and how they discerned attending their AMBS program

“I was looking for the school in the world where I could bring together my commitment to peace-building and justice-seeking with theological insight. I did an exhaustive search of the schools in the world, and I found that AMBS was doing what I wanted to be doing. In short, the past almost three years of my time at seminary have been a time of academic and spiritual formation that helps me to continue to grow and develop a capacity to resist the social constructs that divide God’s people and foster hostility.â€

Henok T. Mekonin of Nazreth, Oromiya region, Ethiopia (Master of Arts: Theology and Peace Studies, 2021)
