Why seminary?

People are attracted to seminary for many different reasons. Some people come with a clear sense of call, while others are wondering about their call. Many more just want the opportunity to learn about the Bible, about history and theology, or spiritual formation.

Seminary provides academic support and resources

The AMBS library holds one of the largest collections of Mennonite and Anabaptist-related materials for ministry in the world. AMBS’s Institute of Mennonite Studies and Church Leadership Center provide even more opportunities to learn from and with a wider spectrum of people and resources.

Seminary includes a wide variety of degrees and programs

At AMBS, we offer high-quality theological and pastoral education through many unique programs and resources including a Master of Divinity degree and three Master of Arts programs. Our programs for personal enrichment and leadership development, including the nondegree Journey: Missional Leadership Development program, provide people with or without formal theological education many opportunities to deepen their roots in scripture and gain greater understanding of what an Anabaptist lens offers for today’s leadership challenges. Ready to take the next step?

We’re excited to walk alongside you as you take each step on your journey. Together we can experience the transformative presence of God in the work of being leaders for God’s reconciling mission in the world.

Seminary serves the church.

At AMBS, we take a wide view of what it means to be a seminary. In everything we do, AMBS exists to serve the church. We are dedicated to strengthening the life and ministry of churches and to support churches in cultivating their rich heritage as Anabaptist organizations. More about AMBS

Seminary provides you with space to grow

At AMBS, you’ll grow in a place that also values creation care, spiritual growth, intercultural competence and undoing racism as core to Christian witness and the church’s ministry of reconciliation. You’ll enhance your gifts for work in church, service, academic and nongovernmental settings — wherever God may call you!

Seminary is affordable

We aim to keep our base tuition rates low so we can make theological education affordable and accessible for a diverse body of students and offer a wide range of financial aid and scholarships. We want to support developing leaders to freely serve the church — unencumbered by large student debt loads. (Did you know that only 6.5% of our students borrowed to pay for AMBS in 2020–21?)
